Check if you're eligible for tax relief on your healthcare uniforms

With the current tax year drawing to an end at the beginning of April, it’s time to start thinking about your rates and allowances. With the latter, if you’re a healthcare employee who wears a uniform you could be eligible for tax relief.

Only around 2 in 3 general employees who wear a uniform at work are entitled to a tax rebate. This statistic includes not only healthcare workers but people from a whole range of professions.

According to the Healthcare Worker Tax Rebate website, to determine if you are eligible ask yourself these three basic questions:

  • Do you have to wear a uniform or protective clothing for work?
  • Do you meet the cost of washing it yourself, without any assistance from your employer?
  • Do you pay income tax on your earnings?

If you answer yes to all of these questions you are eligible for tax relief.

For many healthcare workers, the answer is probably going to be ‘yes’ to all three. So get some further advice and make that claim before it’s too late.
